She didn’t love him anymore, she knew that. She didn’t love any of them, hadn’t for some time. This was what she needed, her mind said behind closed eyes. Her arm raised, she took a deep inhale. With a minor flexing of her wrist she swept the shelf clean. No more. She opened her eyes and they were all gone. Life was suddenly simpler. Her breath rushed out as her back relaxed, and a brief cathartic sob broke free, clearing the smoke.
She turned to the mirror.
This is what she needs, her mind said as she closed her eyes and began to breathe.
My tribute to those most recently slain as the result of lax gun control laws and institutionalized homophobia. I know this piece won’t bring anyone back, but it’s the only thing I could think to do. I’m still processing what happened, and the impact it’s had on many of the people in my life.
The title of the piece, and the blankness of the flag, calls up the emptiness of the hypocritical sentiments being offered by many politicians after these kinds of murderous rampages. My friends, my lovers, so many people I know could easily have been targets in this attack if it had only happened in Portland this week instead of Orlando, and it boggles me that the best anyone in power can offer to do to fix it is to send their ‘thoughts and prayers’.
These mass murders won’t stop until someone of courage and conviction makes it their mission to end them through sweeping policy change that restricts access to these killing machines.
Seriously, this kind of thing shouldn’t be allowed to happen anywhere, not even here in America.
And if you want to do more than just liking this image to help the people in Orlando get past this horrific event, this is a great place to start: http://transcoffee.tumblr.com/post/145814688253/help-orlando-out
Hey, all: I posted about this on the Patreon a couple days ago, but I wanted to post it here, too. I’ve been busy with work and job-searching this past week, and with an out-of-town family trip over the past weekend I haven’t had the time to finish a new page for this week. Sadly, this breaks my run of new pages very short (still, four in a row! I can do better!). My immediate goal had been to finish script and layouts on a few more pages before I start in on the next page, but I’m going to go ahead and get started on page 70 anyway. I’ve got through page 74 written, so maybe that’s good enough? At any rate, I can keep scripting ahead while I’m working on the pages.
BUT! My work schedule is also going to be changing starting this week. I’m moving into a different role at work (more responsibilities, more hours, better pay), which means my schedule will be in flux a bit more than usual. I’ll have to see how that shakes out, ultimately, and hopefully it won’t affect things really.
Okay! On to the next page, and if you’re following my Patreon feed, I’ll post some process pics soon.

Decided to start the day with a warm-up image based on this week’s IllustrationFriday topic. Been a while since I’ve done one of these, it’s a habit I’d love to pick up again.
